Anxiety
Anxiety can be described as feelings of unease, worry or fear. It incorporates both emotions and physical sensations. Although we usually find it unpleasant, anxiety is a natural and related to the ‘fight or flight’ response – the normal biological reaction to feeling threatened.
Like all animals, when human beings feel threatened our bodies release hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which help physically prepare us to either fight the danger or run away from it.
My approach working with clients experiencing anxiety is to provide a supportive means of gently uncovering the triggers and underlying issues that may be at the heart of the person’s distress, whilst at the same time heping them to develop the tools to manage the symptoms of anxiety.
As anxiety is often felt in the body, it is helpful to include working with the body sensations that arise. This builds resilience. From experience I know that reducing anxiety is very achievable and it requires a blended and personalised approach. Understanding our axieties - and learning to manage them - enables us to reclaim an authentic expression of who we really are.
