Depression
Depression can be seen as what happens when a part of us loses the ability, drive or desire to connect with the world. It can feel unsurmountable and it can be brought on for multiple reasons.
Depression does not discriminate. Men and women of every age, educational level and social and economic background can suffer the effects of depression. Once an episode of depression occurs, it is possible for it to reoccur.
Depression symptoms can vary from mild to severe and can include:
Feeling sad or having a depressed mood
Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
Changes in appetite — weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting
Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
Loss of energy or increased fatigue
Feeling worthless or guilty
Difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions
Thoughts of death or suicide
Clients I have worked with have found that depression can actually offer an opportunity to re-assess one's life and embark on new choices and curate a life that is enriching. If you are suffering from depression it is essential to know that you have the ability to emerge and re-engage.
